#2 – First Official VitrualDS Meeting

Screen capture by Luis

Well, it happened and I’m still feeling it. We met pretty much on time (Sept 30 @ 9pm EST) and continued with a few minor incidents until around 1am.

Topics ranged from my frustration with NASA’s recent issues with the Messenger spacecraft, Luis’ continued frustration with CAM medicine (in particular sugar-water medicine), Terry’s experiences with the Catholic church, blasphemy day, pets, the fact that there’s nothing to do in Delaware, #boobiewednesday, and we even watched (mostly) together as Richard Dawkins matched wits with Stephen Colbert.

Thanks to everyone that attended: Terry Shull (@TerilynnS), Cyndi Brown (@Cynraven),  Luis Vidal (@NeuroPunk), Jareth Arnold (@maeamian), Rebekkah Berg (@ymberlenis), Julie (@rationalbehavio), Sheryl Westleigh(@Noadi), Steven Groesbeck (@backin15), and Cary (@qaphsiel)

To the few people that contacted me but chickened out, or those that jumped in and then left for whatever reason, or those who had obviously more important things to do, please consider attending future events because we had a great time.

i tried to jump in off your twitter link but it looked like the room was empty, maybe i didn’t give my computer enough time? I’ll try again next week.
    Glad you guys had fun!

Linux users should be advised that I have been able to get the camera working using both the 32 bit and 64 bit (alpha) Adobe 10 plugins on an Xubuntu AMD x86_64 machine. They can probably save themselves some time by not downloading the alpha 64 bit plug in if they are running the 32 bit libraries and ndiswrapper, etc.

However, the microphone does not work with either of these plugins and it appears there isn’t a work around. To confound things further, neither Adobe or Tokbox seem to care.

Thanks for the feedback on Linux, Myron. It is a bit frustrating that they don’t seem too responsive about it.

Re: Lisa – There were a number of different links passed around last night and some confusion due to some drop outs so it may be that we’d moved to a different link. I think the “trick” is to make sure when we have problems we follow the original “golden” link (which I’ll have to post on the website) to get back on. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like I can “name” a chat room so the room is easy to find, but I’ll look further into it.

    Thanks for trying.
